Budget Models
The most common use for the MPMW is for circulation budgeting. Build your
budget model, update new business production and bad debt and renewal
percentages each month, and you are ready to do print order estimates and
reforecasts any time you are asked.
The MPMW makes starting a new model easy. Tell each model source which
fulfillment sources it contains and the renewal codes for each fulfillment
source. Upload, and you are ready to roll.
Unlike other models the MPMW ‘unscrambles’ the expire instead of using
the future income and copies from the upload. That means that errors caused by
an incorrect renewal percentage show up right from the first issue. If your MPMW
model tracks correctly by source for two or three issues you have confidence
that the projections for next year are correct. Order an expire upload three
months ahead of time and put it in a desk drawer until you are ready to start.
AutoFill makes it easy to enter your new business assumptions. Enter the
details of production, costs, credit, bad debt, cancels, rates and terms and
renewal codes for one period. Go to the next line and press the AutoFill button
- everything is copied for the next model period. Change the production and
repeat. For small sources you can enter an entire year’s new business in one
line. When it comes time to update AutoFill makes updating easy. If you want a
three year projection (and you should) AutoFill makes it easy to copy the year 1
production to years 2 and 3. Want to try a price increase? You can do it in
minutes, by source, by price and term if you want, and with production falloff
and recovery.
You can have as many budget report formats as you need, or you can transfer
results to a spreadsheet. You can use almost any method for reporting
subscription income and expensing promotion costs, and you can use different
methods for different sources. Reports come up in seconds, and when you print
them you can keep working while Windows takes care of the print job.
