The major differences between
Essentials and the full model are that Essentials allows only 12 subscription sources and a
maximum 3 year projection period. You can use Essentials to do next year's budget for the
entire magazine - subs, newsstand, advertising, manufacturing and distribution, editorial
and G&A. You can see circulation reports, P&Ls, cash flows and even balance sheets.
You have probably been doing
your budget with a spreadsheet, but Essentials is much better at planning the subscription
side of the business, and, with Essentials, when you change the subscription plan all the
manufacturing and distribution costs automatically change with it.
You can do your subscription
planning much more accurately and in much more detail. You can also do it much more
quickly. For example, in only about 5 minutes you can do a whole new budget with
increased subscription prices, taking into account lowered sales for a few months while everyone gets
used to your higher prices.
That means you have time to
consider more options, and that means better planning, and better planning usually means
a better bottom line.
